Happy Birthday Douglas Park Nursery!

Yesterday I gave the regular Scottish Genealogy Network monthly meeting a miss and instead attended the Party in the Park, a celebration in Largs of the first forty years of Douglas Park Nursery, the nursery our youngest son attended a few years back. How many parents in Largs have had children start their formative years at the nursery is something I don't know, but the event was absolutely mobbed!

It was a great day, and even more special for our family, not only because our two boys were drumming with the pipe band that led the march of all the parents past and present whose kids were or had been there, but because my wife Claire was responsible for raising the funds to hold the celebrations, as well as some additional funding for the nursery itself for teaching and support materials. Claire joined Get to Grips with Grants (www.get2grips.org) in January, and along with the heid yin Louise McCarron and colleague Karen Kerr, has been raising funds for many local non-profit groups in Ayrshire and beyond for all sorts of worthwhile projects. Lots of volunteers were there to help, on a beautiful day in the town that good weather often forgets to visit...!

Here's a few wee snaps from the day - and Happy Birthday to Douglas Park Nursery: here's to another forty years!
