What's Stroke?
Stroke is a disorder of brain function that occurs suddenly, caused solely by the interruption of blood vessels in the brain, and can lead to death. Stroke generally characterized by impaired nerve (neurologic deficits) focal or global, lasting more than 24 hours. As mentioned in http://sususakti.com/2015/11/20/gejala-stroke-ringan-dan-obatnya/, stroke is responsible for about 15.4% of the total death cases of deaths from the disease. A total of 2.5% of stroke patients died, and the rest will experience disability severity varies.
Symptoms of Stroke
Stroke can occur anytime, anywhere and to anyone, either when someone is doing the activity or while resting, sometimes even without accompanying symptoms so that their previous condition is absolutely normal. Focal neurological deficits characterized by impaired function of certain body parts such as the face of asymmetric articulation of speech becomes slurred / pelo, or the arms and legs become weak. Weakness in the arms and legs are usually only affects one side of the body, right or left, and very rarely occurs on both sides of the body simultaneously at the same time. This neurological disorder caused by local damage to the basal ganglia area where there is a motor nerve fibers that regulate the movement of muscles in our body. While the global neurological deficit occurs due to interference with the ARAS (Ascending Reticular Activating System), which is an area of the brain that regulates consciousness. Disorders of the ARAS can be either local damage or suppression by blood clots / increase pressure within the skull.
A person is said to have suffered a stroke if neurologic deficits for more than 24 hours. When the neurological disorder lasts for less than 24 hours then the condition is called as a Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA) or minor stroke. Keep in mind that the TIA is one risk factor for stroke in the future, so that this situation can not be ignored. Clinical symptoms pure stroke caused by a disturbance in the blood vessels of the brain, such as a blockage or rupture of blood vessels of the brain, and not caused by other diseases such as brain tumors, brain infections or peripheral nerve disorders. Factors that could cause a brain blood vessel disorders include hypertension, diabetes and cholesterol.
Recognize Stroke Signs Initial Attack with FAST
Stroke is an emergency in the field of neurological disease (neurological). If not treated properly and promptly, stroke can cause disability and even death. How the easiest way to ensure that someone is having a stroke? This is a question that often arises in the minds of ordinary people when hearing the word stroke. Not infrequently the patient's family was not aware that one family member was suffering from a stroke, causing the patient was taken to the hospital too late. In the case of stroke, there is a term time is brain, time is brain. The more a person suffering a stroke late to get treatment, the more brain tissue will be damaged permanently, so that the more severe the disability arising anyway.
As a form of real concern for public health education, Eka Hospital FAST introduced the term which is expected to help increase the general public awareness of the early signs of a stroke. FAST is an abbreviation of the term Face, Arms, Speech, Time.
By knowing FAST, Eka Hospital expects every component in the family and community awareness to immediately bring stroke patients to the nearest hospital emergency room, especially those that have integrated stroke services. Remember, the golden period for the treatment of stroke patients is three hours and the time is brain! If the stroke patients treated immediately, the opportunity can be saved will be greater, so the degree of disability can be reduced as low as possible because of stroke patients are entitled to optimal quality of life.
Face
Ask the person who is suspected of having a stroke to smile. Consider whether his face is not symmetrical?
Arms (forearm)
Ask the person who is suspected of having a stroke to lift both arms straight forward and hold it for a few seconds. If he can only lift one arm? If he can lift his arms, whether one looks down arms?
Speech (talking)
Ask the person who is suspected of having a stroke to repeat a few sentences. Whether he is able to speak clearly or audible pelo or lisp? Will be clearer when spoken sentence contains many consonants like the letter R, a snake coiled above the fence.
Time (time)
As mentioned earlier, time is brain, every second counts. If found any of the above symptoms, immediately call or take it fits
